INDIANAPOLIS — Two Indianapolis Fire Department firefighters are recovering from minor injuries after battling a serious house fire Saturday afternoon on the city's near north side.
According to a social media post from IFD, shortly after 3 p.m. on March 2, firefighters responded to a working residence fire in the 3600 block of North Rural Street, near 38th Street and Keystone Avenue.
IFD says one firefighter was forced to jump to safety after the fire blew out one of the front windows. A mayday call was made but later retracted. A second firefighter was transported to Eskenazi Hospital to be checked and was later released.
Crews were reportedly able to bring the fire under control in 20 minutes. IFD says the homeowner was not present when the fire began.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
