ELWOOD, Ind. — Two people died in a crash involving a police pursuit Friday night in northern Madison County. The Madison County Sheriff's Office confirmed the crash and is investigating the circumstances.

David Garnes, 45, of Alexandria, and Jonathan Davidson, 18, of Anderson, died in the crash, according to information shared with the Herald Bulletin.

The chase began in Elwood and ended in the crash near C.R. 500 West and 1100 North around 8:30 p.m.

After an attempted traffic stop by Elwood police, the 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo headed east on S.R. 28 from Elwood with Elwood Police in pursuit, then turned south on 500 West.

That's when sheriff's investigators say the car left the road and hit two trees.

The men inside the Chevy were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Madison County Coroner's office will conduct autopsies and toxicology tests.
