'Iconic career' | 13News anchor Anne Marie Tiernon to be recognized with Inspiring Sports Storyteller Award

The Indiana Sports Corp announced Tuesday that Anne Marie Tiernon will be recognized with the Indiana Sports Storyteller Award at its annual State of Sports.

INDIANAPOLIS — A big congratulations is in order for 13News anchor Anne Marie Tiernon!

The Indiana Sports Corp announced Tuesday, Aug. 27 that Tiernon will be recognized with the Indiana Sports Storyteller Award at its annual State of Sports. 

The event, presented by Indiana University, will be hosted at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Sept. 10. 

“Anne Marie Tiernon has told the stories of our city and state for nearly 30 years and has covered countless Indiana athletes around the world as we saw this summer with the Olympics in Paris,” said Patrick Talty, president of Indiana Sports Corp. “We are thrilled to recognize her with the Inspiring Sports Storyteller Award for her iconic career.”

The Fort Wayne native has worked in the Indianapolis market for 29 of her 35-year television career, including the last 20 at 13News. She anchors the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. weekday newscasts, in addition to field anchoring breaking news, landing interviews with top newsmakers and creating content highlighting ways viewers can prioritize and improve their health and wellness. 

She has traveled internationally to cover six Olympic Games, and most recently covered the Paris Olympics following her coverage of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. While at the Paris Olympics, she interviewed Cole Hocker, Chloé Dygert, Sarah Hildebrandt, Rajeev Ram and many more. 

Tiernon's work has been recognized with numerous Lower Great Lake Emmy Awards; National Headliner Awards for Health/Science Reporting and the Regional Edward R. Murrow Award. Tiernon won a National Media Award for Local Television from Mental Health America; honors for live breaking news reporting from the Associated Press and was named Journalist of the Year Award by the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association.

The State of Sports is an annual fundraising program for Indiana Sports Corp and highlights its mission impacting the community through sports.
