12-year-old boy dies from injuries in Avon crash

Police are still investigating the crash, which claimed the live of an Avon seventh grader on Sunday.

AVON, Ind. — Police in Avon are investigating a crash that claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy over the weekend.

The police department told 13News the crash happened on U.S. 36 at Avon Village Parkway on Sunday, Oct. 13.

Braxton Garvin, a seventh grader at Avon Middle School South, was struck while riding his bicycle. Police say the crash remains under investigation, but that the driver involved in the crash stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Garvin was taken to Riley Hospital for Children, where he died from his injuries.

"We ask that you keep the families of both parties involved in your thoughts and prayers," police wrote in a Facebook post Wednesday evening.

Avon police also shared information about a confirmed GoFundMe page raising money to support Garvin's family with the unexpected funeral expenses.

Police said the victim's family has also been receiving support from administrators at Riley Hospital for Children and from the Avon Community School Corporation. The support for Garvin's family, friends and classmates will continue when the school district returns from fall break on Oct. 28, police said.
