11 people, 18 animals displaced from 3 homes after fire on Indy's east side

The fire happened around noon Monday near Emerson and Southeastern avenues.

INDIANAPOLIS — Eleven people and nearly 20 animals were displaced from three homes after a fire on Indianapolis' east side Monday afternoon.

Shortly after noon Feb. 12, Indianapolis Fire Department crews were called to the 1100 block of Worcester Avenue, near Emerson and Southeastern avenues, where heavy fire that broke out in a garage had spread to homes on either side and another garage.

More than a dozen IFD units worked for roughly 45 minutes to bring the fire under control.

No injuries were reported, and IFD/IMPD fire investigators are now working to determine the cause of the fire.

Ten adults and one child were displaced from three homes, along with eight dogs, seven birds and three chickens, which were all removed by IFD.

IFD Victims Assistance is working with the Red Cross to provide shelter for those displaced.
