1 killed in south Indianapolis hit-and-run crash; suspect arrested for DUI

The crash happened Thursday around 3:30 p.m. in the 8200 block of Madison Avenue, near East Stop 11 Road.

INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating a crash that left one person dead on the south side of Indianapolis Thursday afternoon.

IMPD officers responded to the scene of the crash, which involved two vehicles in the 8200 block of Madison Avenue, near East Stop 11 Road, around 3:30 p.m. Oct. 26. One of the drivers involved left the scene, but was located with the help of witnesses. That driver was taken into custody. 

The second driver was taken to the hospital, where they died from their injuries.

The driver that fled from the scene was taken in for a blood draw, which is standard procedure following crashes involving serious injury or death.

Later Thursday, IMPD announced a 48-year-old man was arrested for DUI - causing death, failing to stop - causing death and resisting law enforcement.

NOTE: 13News does not name suspects until charges have been filed by prosecutors.
