INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a teenager dead on Indy's northeast side Sunday morning.
Around 8 a.m., IMPD officers responded to a report of a person shot in the 3600 block of East 39th Street, near North Sherman Drive and 38th Street.
When officers arrived, they found an 18-year-old who had been shot. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the teenager as 18-year-old Isaac Samuel Williams.
Neighbors told 13News they believe the victim was shot the night before, when people were outside setting off fireworks.
"The fireworks went boom and that's all I heard at first, then I heard gunshots, it was scary," said Kimberly Kelly.
Right now, investigators are working to determine exactly when the shooting happened.
"We have to have the community's help whenever we have these types of investigations," said William Young, an IMPD Officer. "Obviously this community is devastated with something like this happening,"
