HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) — A woman is headed to jail after another woman was killed in a crash in northern Hancock County early Thursday.
The Hancock County Sheriff's Department told Eyewitness News the two-car, head-on crash occurred shortly before 12:45 a.m. on SR 234 near Troy Road north of Greenfield.
Investigators say a westbound Ford Focus was hit by an eastbound Mini Cooper.
The Sheriff's Office said Rachel Thomas, 44, of Wilkinson was killed. She was a passenger in the Ford Focus and taken to Hancock Regional Hospital where she died.
Leanna Murphy, 24, Richmond was identified as the driver of the Mini Cooper. She was treated at Hancock Regional Hospital then arrested for OWI causing death. She was taken to the Hancock County Jail in Greenfield.
The female driver of the Focus was flown to IU Health-Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and two males in the Ford were also taken to Methodist by ambulance. All three are expected to survive.
Murphy's male passenger was treated at Hancock Regional Hospital for minor injuries.
Wreckers took both vehicles away and SR 234 reopened around 4:30 a.m.
