MUNCIE, Ind. — One person was killed and two others were injured in a crash caused by deer in Delaware County Monday morning.
Just after 7:15 a.m. Jan. 29, multiple deer were crossing State Road 67 near Bell Creek Road when vehicles had slowed down to avoid hitting them, according to the Delaware County Sheriff's Office. After one car had already hit a deer, a semi was slowing down when a truck travelling with three people crashed into the back of it, and became wedged under the semi.
The two passengers of the truck were rushed to local hospitals. The back passenger was able to climb out of the vehicle, while the other passenger had to be freed by first responders and was listed in critical condition.
The driver of the truck was later pronounced dead on the scene by the Delaware County Coroner's Office. The victim has been identified by the DCCO as 47-year-old Ryan Massengale, of Daleville.
The sheriff's office is now investigating the crash.
