GREENWOOD, Ind. — One person was injured and at least eight units were damaged in a fire at a Greenwood apartment complex early Saturday.
Shortly before 2 a.m. Feb. 24, Greenwood Fire Department crews were called to a building at the Polo Run Apartments in the 1000 block of Westminster Row, near Fry Road and U.S. 31.
At the scene, they found "smoke bellowing from the roofline" of a three-story apartment building, the Greenwood Fire Department said in a statement. Additional crews responded, fighting the fire and ensuring apartments had been evacuated.
Eight units were damaged by the fire or sustained water damage. One resident, who the fire department said is believed to be a maintenance worker for the complex, was taken to a local hospital for minor burns and smoke inhalation and has since been released.
The Red Cross and Johnson County Fire Angels responded to the scene to help residents displaced by the fire, the cause of which remains under investigation.
