WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — One person was found dead in a house fire in West Lafayette Tuesday morning.
The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call for a house fire around 9:30 a.m. Nov. 26 in the 100 block of Blueberry Lane, near State Road 26 and Klondike Road.
The caller said there was smoke coming from the inside of the home and nobody responded to repeated knocks on the door.
The first deputy arrived approximately four minutes after the 911 call and went into the house through an unlocked door in the back of the home.
The deputy saw a dead animal in the entry way and said the inside of the home was filled with thick, black smoke, so the deputy was not able to go further into the home.
Firefighters arrived to put out the fire and found a man dead inside the home.
The Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office will identify him once family has been notified.
The Wabash Fire Department, West Lafayette Fire Department, Purdue Fire Department, West Lafayette Police Department and Tippecanoe County Emergency Ambulance Services assisted the sheriff's office at the scene.
