KOKOMO, Ind. — One person is dead after a shooting in Kokomo Thursday night.
Police said they responded to the 300 block of West Markland Avenue, just west of South Washington Street, on a report of a person shot around 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10.
Officers arrived to find 37-year-old Henry Clayton suffering from a gunshot wound. Detectives said a 31-year-old Perry Reyes, of Kokomo, was showing the gun to Clayton inside the home when the shooting happened.
At some point during the interaction, Reyes told police that he thought the gun had no ammo in it when he pointed it at Clayton and shot him.
Medics transported Clayton to a local hospital and later to Eskanazi Hospital in Indianapolis, where he died.
According to court documents, Reyes had a 0.200 breath alcohol content reading, which is 0.12 over the legal limit to operate a vehicle.
Reyes was arrested and later charged with involuntary manslaughter and criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon.
Anyone with additional information on the investigation is asked to contact the Kokomo Police Department at 765-456-7017.
