1 dead after crash near Shelbyville; deputies arrest 28-year-old for DUI

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. — A 28-year-old man was arrested for driving under the influence after a fatal crash near Shelbyville Wednesday morning. 

The Shelby County Sheriff's Department said the crash happened on Morristown Road, north of Rafferty Road, just after 8 a.m. Aug. 28.

Police said a 2020 Ram pickup truck, driven by 28-year-old man, was headed northbound when he crossed over into the southbound lane. The man then hit a 2003 Honda head-on. 

The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the driver will be released by the Shelby County Coroner’s Office. 

The suspect was arrested on preliminary charges of driving under the influence causing death.

The investigation is ongoing. 

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department was helped by the Shelbyville Fire Department, Shelbyville Police Department, Shelby County Coroner’s Office, Shelby County EMA and Indiana State Police.
