IMPD is investigating a deadly crash Sept. 6, 2023, shortly after noon ET at West 71st Street and Georgetown Road.

Mark Smoot, a witness to the crash, told 13News that there is a problem with garbage trucks speeding in the plaza.

"I guess 100 different businesses with big trucks and these drivers are in hurry," Smoot said. "They're rushing through these parking lots, sometimes at 30-40 miles an hour when there's children that cross back and forth. I mean, if you leave 10 minutes earlier and just do your job at the right pace, you're fine."

"This all could have been prevented," Smoot said.

People were asked to seek an alternative route and avoid the area for several hours.
