INDIANAPOLIS — A woman is dead after a crash on Interstate 70 westbound early Sunday morning on the west side of Indianapolis.

Indiana State Police, along with IFD and IEMS, responded to reports of a serious crash on I-70 westbound, near the South Holt Road exit, around 12:30 a.m. Nov. 10.

ISP said callers were reporting an unresponsive person lying in the road.

When authorities arrived on scene they said they found several vehicles stopped on both sides of the road, along with three "heavily damaged cars."

An adult female was lying in the road and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, the Marion County Coroner's Office identified the woman as 45-year-old Tara Leigh Strahl.

ISP said a vehicle had hit the outside barrier wall, then came across all lanes and hit the inside wall, and then stopped in the left lane. While the driver of that vehicle was standing outside the car, police said another vehicle hit her car, causing her to be thrown into the road, where she was then hit by another vehicle.

All involved vehicles remained at the scene.

At this time, ISP said neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to have contributed to this crash.

All lanes of I-70 westbound were closed for four hours, and traffic was being diverted to Harding Street, but they had all opened as of 6:45 a.m. Sunday.

The crash remains under investigation.
