CARLISLE, Indiana — Indiana State Police are investigating a homicide at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Sullivan County.  Police say correctional officers found 57-year-old Kevin J. Carpenter unresponsive in his cell Monday morning.  Staff members immediately began first aid, but Carpenter was pronounced dead.

Police say they suspect foul play and are treating the death as a homicide. Carpenter had been incarcerated within the Indiana Department of Corrections since February of 2011. An autopsy was conducted Monday morning at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Final results are still pending.
