CINCINNATI (WTHR) - Several brands of rawhide dog crews are being recalled because the chews may contain an ammonium compound.
United Pet Group says American Beefhide, Digest-eeze, and Healthy Hide (including Healthy Hide – Good -n- Fun and Healthy Hide – Good -n- Fit) brands are all part of the recall.
UPG says that some of its manufacturing facilities were using the compound, which is meant for cleaning equipment, in the chews when they were not supposed to.

American Beefhide
- The recall is limited to dog chew products that contain rawhide. The products affected by the recall have lot codes on the back of the package that start with AH. The products have expiration dates from 6/1/2019 to 5/31/2020. All package sizes are a part of the recall. The following contact information appears on the back of the packages:

- The recall is limited to dog chew products that contain rawhide. Only products with lot codes listed on the back of the package that start with AH, AV, A, AI, AO, or AB are affected. The packages will have expiration dates from 06/01/2019 through 05/31/2020. They will also have the Salix Animal Health contact info on the back.
Healthy Hide
- The recall is limited to dog chew products that contain rawhide and are sold under the Healthy Hide, Healthy Hide Good-n-Fit brand, and Healthy Hide Good-n-Fun brands. All package sizes and weights are affected by the recall.
On June 16, the company expanded the recall to include Companion, Dentley's, Enzadent/Dentahex, Essential Everyday, Exer-Hides, Good Lovin' or Petco, Hill Country Fare, and Priority Pet brands of rawhides.

If your dog is exposed to the ammonium compound, it may show the following symptoms: reduced appetite and gastric irritation, which could include diarrhea and vomiting. The company says the chews containing the compound will have an unusually foul odor. There have been reports of pet illnesses from consuming them.
