INDIANAPOLIS — An infant was laid to rest today during a private service organized by the “He Knows Your Name" ministry.
The goal of the organization is to make sure every baby who dies has a name and is given a proper burial.
"Baby Raji" was born in Indianapolis. His remains were recently released by the coroner's office when no family claimed the child. Raji died at just two-months-old.
His memorial comes during Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Linda Znachko used this as an opportunity to honor the baby in death and highlight support available to families who experience pregnancy and infant loss.
In 2021, more than 500 babies died in Indiana before their first birthday. More than 2,700 babies have died across the Hoosier state in the last five years.
Indiana has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the country.
The funeral and burial service took place at Washington Park East Cemetery.
