INDIANAPOLIS — We got our first look Monday inside Indianapolis' newest hospital.
The Ascension St. Vincent Women and Infants Hospital is set to officially open next month. The 268,000-square-foot hospital cost $200 million to build.
It is connected to the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital off of 86th Street on Indianapolis' north side and will house one of Indiana's largest pediatric emergency departments.
The goal of relocating the current women's hospital into the new eight-story building is to create a more collaborative environment for pre- and post-natal care.
It will feature 109 NICU rooms, 30 maternity suites and two helipads.
The new hospital will also have Indiana's first "couplet" rooms, which will allow new mothers and their babies to receive care together, even if the newborn needs NICU care.
Connected NICU rooms will keep siblings of multiple births close together while they receive care. Families will be able to keep an eye on infants virtually through live-streaming camera systems.
The project is one of three parts of the $325 million investment to expand the hospital system's flagship campus. The project also includes a Brain and Spine Hospital and a campus parking garage.
The grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 16.
