INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana's attorney general has announced a lawsuit over insulin prices.
The AG alleged Tuesday that pharmacy benefit managers and drug companies have conspired to keep insulin prices high.
Two of the companies named, Caremark PCS and CVS Healthcorp, are associated with CVS, one of the country's largest operators of retail pharmacies.
Another, Optum RX, manages pharmacy benefits for traditional Medicaid in Indiana.
Attorney General Todd Rokita believes the companies are taking advantage of sick Hoosiers.
"When they raise prices in lockstep, we allege they have extracted illegal profits from people who truly need this medication," Rokita said.
Last year, Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly settled for more than $13 million in a class action lawsuit accusing it of insulin price fixing.
The attorney general did not name Eli Lilly when announcing Tuesday's lawsuit.
