AVON, Ind. (WTHR) — Damar Services will be offering a free screening day for autism.
Psychologists and board certified behavioral analysts will provide screenings at Damar's Avon location.
The director of autism services for Damar tells us there's a pretty significant wait list at local hospitals to get those tests.
"So they might go to their pediatrician and the doctor says we have some concerns," said Kristin McCoy, Director of autism services. "They need to have some follow up testing and there's no where to go. Or the answer they're getting is you need to wait eight months. And we know that early intervention is absolutely critical. So that wait time, every day that passes is really important."
You can make an appointment or walk in this Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Damar will have a psychologist available to talk with your family.
You'll need to answer some questions about your child's development and they'll observe your child as well. You'll then get guidance on whether or not you need to get a full assessment.
