PITTSBORO, Ind. — The Pittsboro Police Department said a boil water order has been put in place.
The order has been in effect since Monday and affects all of Osborne Avenue and West Main Street from Meridian Street to Scamahorn Street. Pittsboro Elementary and Pittsboro Primary schools are also affected.
The boil order is expected to go through Wednesday unless otherwise announced.
Pittsboro residents should use bottled water or boil tap water during this time because the community’s water may not be safe to drink.
The CDC provides the following guidelines on boiling water:
- Use bottled or boiled water for drinking, and to prepare and cook food.
- If bottled water is not available, bring water to a full rolling boil for one minute, then allow it to cool before use.
- Boil tap water even if it is filtered.
- Do not use water from any appliance connected to your water line, such as ice and water from a refrigerator.
- Breastfeeding is the best infant feeding option. If you formula-feed your child, provide ready-to-use formula, if available.
Pittsboro is roughly 20 miles northwest of Indianapolis.
