Indianapolis, Dec. 12 - Former Indianapolis Police Officer Scott Cooper is back in jail. A judge ordered him behind bars for violating his probation agreement concerning child pornography.

Even his attorney, Patrick Baker, admits Cooper still needs help with his sex addiction. "He has lifted a burden off his shoulders by coming to testify."

In the notice of probation violation prosecutors charge that Cooper accessed the Internet without permission, viewed child pornography, frequented a library where children visit and violated conditions of his sex offender treatment program.

Cooper told the judge he used a Marion County library computer to access child pornography web sites.

After having pleaded not guilty, the former police officer shocked the court by admitting to all four violations.

Deputy Prosecutor Kristina Korobov was taken "a little bit by surprise. I think they were counting on evidentiary rulings that they did not get because Mr. Cooper denied it."

While prosecutors say Cooper's jail time sends a strong message to convicted and would-be sex offenders, his attorney questions just how much help Cooper will get behind bars. "One of the problems with the Department of Corrections in this state is the treatment programs are not adequate."

Korobov says, "No matter what your position is in life, you will be prosecuted and no one has the right to violate a child."

The judge sentenced Cooper to one and one-half years in prison, one year probation and more sex addiction treatment.

The judge also threatened Cooper that if he violated his probation the second time after getting out of jail she would send him back to jail again.
