ORLANDO, Fla. (WESH) - Universal Orlando is now in a position to get a whole lot bigger. Just months after opening Volcano Bay, the park bought another hundred acres near Sand Lake Road and where the rest of the park already sits.

The pasture land near Destination Parkway and Universal Boulevard has just been purchased by Universal and many people believe the area will one day be the site of a whole new Universal theme park.

A spokesman for Universal told NBC station WESH-TV the theme park recently spent $27.5 million to buy 100 additional acres of land that abuts over 400 acres it already owns off West Sand Lake Road.

That total acreage is much larger than Universal Orlando's current location, which is home to Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios and Volcano Bay.

Experts who follow the theme park industry believe Universal has plans to one day create another park.

It has been reported that some of the newly acquired land will likely be used to create overflow parking for Universal's current parks, but that will require creating a transportation link across an interstate that includes both public and private land.

That's an issue Universal already faces with its plans to build a resort hotel at the site of the old Wet 'n Wild Orlando.
