HERNDON, Va. (WTHR) - Bob Ross painted thousands of paintings during his time on TV's "The Joy of Painting."
But where did they all go?
The New York Times tracked the painter-turned-TV star's works to a company in Herndon, Virginia. The estimated 30,000 paintings Ross turned out for his show are at Bob Ross Inc., a business run by Joan Kowalski, whose mother Annette "discovered" Ross, who died in 1995, at a painting class.
"The first day I took the class with Bob, I was so mesmerized by Bob, I couldn't paint," Annette said.
The newspaper produced a 10-minute video on the history of the iconic painter, his famous works, his TV show - and why you aren't allowed to buy his work.
While Ross' paintings aren't for sale, you will soon be able to view his works in an exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum of American History.
His spirit also lives on through the Kowalskis and the company that bears his name. Bob Ross Inc. remains active on social media, sharing quotes and memories of Ross' TV show.
