WASHINGTON (NBC News) - There's a new effort underway to preserve Dorothy's ruby red slippers from the famous 1939 movie "The Wizard of Oz."
The red shoes worn by Judy Garland are currently on display at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.
The relics are nearly 80 years old and fading.
The Smithsonian institution has now launched a campaign to raise $300,000 to restore the sequined shoes.
Donors can donate to the Kickstarter campaign online. It's up and running for just 30 days.
