(WTHR) — You likely haven't seen the last of Prince Ali and co.

Producer Dan Lin told SYFY WIRE a sequel to this year's live action "Aladdin" has been discussed.

"People clearly loved the movie and watched it multiple times, and we get lots of fan letters and people asking us to make 'Return [of] Jafar,'" Lin said. "I can just tell you that we’re in early stages right now, but we’re certainly talking about another movie."

Similar to this year's adaptation of the 1992 animated film, Lin said a sequel would not be a straight remake of any movie that's been made before.

"We’re looking at ‘where’s the best way to go with these characters,'" Lin said. "The audience response has really touched us in thinking about where we can go with these stories, and we feel like these characters have more adventures in store."

In the 1994 direct-to-video sequel, the evil sorcerer Jafar returns after a thief frees him from the magic lamp.

"Aladdin" exceeded box office expectations and crossed $1 billion at the worldwide box office, surpassing the $817 million earnings of "Independence Day" to become Will Smith's highest grossing film of his career.

"Aladdin" will be released digitally on Aug. 27 and on Blu-ray and DVD on Sept. 10.
