INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — The animated series "Arthur" that airs on PBS Kids had a moment on Monday that many are talking about.

The episode featured a same-sex marriage with Arthur's teacher, Mr. Ratburn.

About 11 minutes into the episode, the teacher and his husband Patrick walk down the aisle. Following the ceremony, Arthur is shown at the reception saying he cannot believe that Mr. Ratburn is married.

"Yep. It's a brand new world," said Arthur's friend Francine.

PBS issued a statement about the episode to People.

“PBS KIDS programs are designed to reflect the diversity of communities across the nation. We believe it is important to represent the wide array of adults in the lives of children who look to PBS KIDS every day,” the network stated.

This is the 22nd season for "Arthur" on PBS. The show is based on the best-selling children's book series written by Marc Brown.
