LUCAS, Ohio (WTHR) - An Ohio oak tree made famous in the 1994 film classic "Shawshank Redemption" has fallen.

WKYC-TV reports the tree, located on a farm in Lucas, Ohio, was reported toppled Friday by the local visitor's bureau. Part of the tree was lost to a storm several years ago, possibly by a lightning strike.

The tree appears in the closing moments of the film, when "Red," played by Morgan Freeman, walks through a field to the base of the giant oak and finds a package left for him by fellow inmate Andy Dufresne, played by Tim Robbins.

"It's got a long rock wall with a big oak tree at the north end. It's like something out of a Robert Frost poem. It's where I asked my wife to marry me. We went there for a picnic and made love under that oak and I asked and she said yes. Promise me, Red. If you ever get out... find that spot. At the base of that wall, you'll find a rock that has no earthly business in a Maine hayfield. Piece of black, volcanic glass. There's something buried under it I want you to have." (via IMDB.com)

The prison scenes in the movie were filmed at the old Ohio State Reformatory in nearby Mansfield.
