INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Walt Disney Studios has a Beatles documentary in the works, and it has set the release date for Sept. 4, 2020. Disney Executive Chairman Robert A. Iger announced the news at a shareholder meeting Wednesday.
Disney got distribution rights for never-before-seen footage seen in the documentary. The film, titled "The Beatles: Get Back," will give a behind-the-scenes look at the Beatles' "Let It Be" recording sessions and the entire rooftop concert on London's Savile Row.
"'The Beatles: Get Back' is a front-row seat to the inner workings of these genius creators at a seminal moment in music history, with spectacularly restored footage that looks like it was shot yesterday," Iger said.
Oscar-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson ("Lord of the Rings" trilogy), is directing the film.
"I've been privileged to be a fly on the wall while the greatest band of all time works, plays and creates masterpieces," Jackson said.
Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr — the last surviving members of the band — said the film shows the love and joy between the members, a true depiction of their relationship.
