'No credible evidence' in bomb threat that caused West Lafayette schools to evacuate, lockdown

Police were immediately contacted after school officials received word of the threat and made the decision to evacuate students per protocol, the district said.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The West Lafayette Jr/Sr High School was evacuated Tuesday morning after school officials said they learned of a threat.

In a statement posted on social media, the district said West Lafayette police were immediately contacted after school officials received word of the threat and made the decision to evacuate students, per protocol.

Students within walking distance or who are driving to the school were released to return home. All other students were evacuated to a safe location.

While West Lafayette Police Department officials were responding to the scene at the school, they received a call from someone who claimed to be inside the school with a gun.

The students at the high school were escorted to Mackey Arena on the Purdue University campus for reunification with their families. According to the district, no students or staff were injured. 

The West Lafayette Intermediate School was placed on lockdown and the West Lafayette Elementary School was closed for the day. Students who were on their way to school were sent home.

According to the WLPD, officers did not find any credible evidence related to the reported threats.

The district said it will continue to communicate with families to keep everyone safe.
