Scholarships, on-site admissions offered at HBCU College Fair at Crispus Attucks

More than 40 schools participated in Thursday's event.

INDIANAPOLIS — Hundreds of local students got the chance to meet with representatives from a number of Historically Black Colleges and Universities Thursday at the HBCU College Fair.

More than 40 schools took part in the event at Crispus Attucks High School, admitting students and offering scholarships on site.

It was hosted by the Indianapolis Black Alumni Council. The organization's president told 13News the fair is a great opportunity.

"If you look at actually HBCUs, most students are first-generation students, which means they're the only ones in their family, first (that are) gonna graduate from college, so this right here is the upliftment to their household and also to their family, which establishes generational wealth. generational education and also the skills that make it better for them to go out and get a career," said Jerry W. Quinn.

This is the 45th year for the college fair.
