Broad Ripple Middle School set to open in old high school building

Students will get new classrooms, a cafeteria and a new curriculum.

INDIANAPOLIS — Since 2017, Broad Ripple High School's doors have been closed. However, in a couple weeks, it'll open to over 860 middle schoolers.

The new middle school is funded by the Indianapolis Public School's Rebuilding Stronger Referendum. Through this, schools like Broad Ripple Middle are able to provide resources and programming to students who may not have access in their neighborhoods.

"Our kids get to experience something they've never experienced before," principal Tiffany Robinson said.

Students will get to be in new classrooms, a cafeteria and learn a new curriculum.

"The IB program is making sure students are at the center and we have service and action at our core to make sure they are holistic with their educational endeavors," Robinson said.

While construction continues in the building, outside crews are building a new athletic facility and football stadium.

"We are making sure we are hiring qualified, well knowledge-based coaches, but also offering a plethora of opportunities for our scholars," Robinson said.

Teachers tell 13News this school year is a new chapter in this school's history book.

"We are all new to this, so the students are brand new, the teachers and administration, everything is from level one, so we have no where else to go but up," James Gorski said.

The middle school's first day is Aug. 1, along with other IPS schools.
