INDIANAPOLIS — The MSD of Decatur Township announced on Monday the implementation of Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) breakfast and lunch for the 2024-2025 school year.
This means all students enrolled in Decatur Township Schools are automatically eligible to receive a breakfast and lunch each school day at no charge.
School officials said students will be able to participate in these meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit an application. There will still be the option for families to add funds to the Linq Connect meal app or send cash with students for the purchase of “extra” items.
“We know that well-fed students are better able to concentrate, learn, and perform academically, leading to better overall educational outcomes," Superintendent Scott Collins explained. "Taking part in the Community Eligibility Provision ensures that all students in Decatur Township have access to free, nutritious meals at school. We are Decatur Proud to provide this additional support for families, removing the need to apply for financial assistance as in the past.”
School officials said CEP participation will be evaluated annually by MSD of Decatur Township to make sure the provision continues to meet the needs of Decatur Township families and school communities.
"Providing free breakfast and lunch to all students not only ensures that all students have access to free, nutritious meals, but will likely increase participation in the school meal programs, leading to community and economic benefits of jobs and increased demand for local food suppliers," Emily LeMay, a spokesperson for Decatur Township, said.
