MOORESVILLE, Ind. — Mooresville Schools said an item accidentally left behind during police training Wednesday prompted an e-learning day Thursday.
Early Sept. 19, the district said in a social media statement that a "threatening situation" had prompted a remote learning day for students and teachers.
In an joint statement from the Mooresville Consolidated School Corporation and Morgan County Sheriff's Office posted around 8:30 a.m., officials said an investigation determined that a suspicious item found on the Mooresville High School campus was "part of Wednesday overnight training from the Morgan County Sheriff's Office."
"The item was left behind accidentally when officers left for an urgent call," the statement said, adding that outside law enforcement training often happens on Mooresville Schools campuses.
The district said its custodial staff discovered the item early Thursday morning.
"We do not regret taking full measures to keep students and staff safe and will always do so," the district said.
E-learning will continue for Thursday, Sept. 19. After school practices and activities will occur as normal.
