INDIANAPOLIS — "Time is going so quickly, right?" asked Ashley Beverly with Indianapolis Public Schools.
Beverly works in the district's Family Academy. She said it is never too early for families to start thinking about college.
"In education, things are ever-changing," Beverly said.
That's why Beverly and IPS are hosting "Prepping for Success: The 3E's & College Prep." It is a free event for students and their families to learn more about enrollment, enlistment and employment.
"Part of the Family Academy for the district is that we cultivate relationships, and so, this is just another touchpoint for us to do that," Beverly said.
At Saturday's event, families can get one-on-one help with college prep, like filling out the FAFSA, 21st Century Scholars, scholarship applications and more.
"It is an opportunity for you to think about, 'How can I get to the money?'" Beverly said.
The event is open to all IPS high school and middle school students.
"Getting that jump-start now for our middle schoolers to learn about when is the best time to begin those scholarship applications," Beverly said. "When should you really be looking at schools that you're interested in? Reach out to those institutions, so you can see what scholarships they offer."
Beverly said members of the district's Postsecondary Readiness Team will also be on hand Saturday.
"Being able to have that sit-down, one-on-one time during that workshop, we are hoping that our families feel welcomed," Beverly said. "We are in that process with you. Please continue to ask us questions, and we will be alongside you."
"Prepping for Success" is Saturday, Jan. 13 at 10:30 a.m. inside the Arsenal Technical High School, at 1500 E Michigan St. Guests should enter Gate 5 off Oriental Street.
"We will have lunch provided," Beverly said. "Everything is free. We will have some raffles, and if you pre-register, you get to be in that raffle."
