"A firm believer in the Montessori philosophy, I enrolled my four children in Montessori schools for their early childhood education," Krutz said. "I am committed to ensuring that George Washington Carver offers the best Montessori program for all students."

In May, the school district announced the search for a new principal and vice principal at George Washington Carver School 87 following an abuse lawsuit that accuses a teacher at the school of promoting a "children's fight club" that included recorded video of one student physically assaulting another.

Prosecutors charged Julious Johnican, 23, with neglect of a dependent for failing to stop a fight that happened between students in his classroom.

Johnican's next court appearance is a pretrial hearing on Tuesday, July 23 at 8:30 a.m.
