CARMEL, Ind. — The superintendent of Carmel Clay Schools has announced his retirement.
Dr. Michael Beresford said Monday the upcoming school year will be his last leading the district.
"I will always cherish the time I have had here in CCS working alongside the talented educators, dedicated staff, supportive families, and the incredible students of Carmel Clay Schools," said Beresford. "It’s been an honor to be a part of this amazing team.”
Carmel Clay Schools said in a release that Beresford left "an indelible mark on the lives of countless students, families and staff members."
This school year will be Beresford's 43rd year working in education.
The Carmel Clay School Board of Trustees has already named Beresford's successor.
Dr. Thomas Oestreich, currently the assistant superintendent of staff and student services in the district, will assume the role of superintendent next July.
"Dr. Oestreich’s proven leadership and enthusiasm for this district is indisputable," said board president Kristin Kouka. "We are confident his institutional understanding and established relationships with staff make Dr. Oestreich the perfect next leader to uphold our tradition of excellence."
Oestreich, a Butler University graduate who holds a master's degree and doctorate from Indiana University, started his career as a teacher in Carmel Clay Schools 25 years ago. He has also taught at MSD Washington Township, where he first served as assistant principal at the middle school level, then later at North Central High School.
He was later principal at Lawrence Central, before he was named assistant superintendent in Washington Township before joining Carmel Clay Schools as assistant superintendent in January 2020.
