INDIANAPOLIS — Butler University is partnering with Preventia, to host it's first-ever summit event, focused around improving young students' mental health.
The university said it's called the Student-Athlete Mental Wellness Summit.
Leaders with Butler said the summit will address improving mental strength, health and wellbeing, sleep patterns and more.
There will be three keynote speakers, including former IndyCar driver Robert Wickens; Dr. Mark Campbell, with Major League Baseball's Washington Nationals; and Dr. Mark Pettus, a leader in integrative medicine.
13News spoke with one senior athlete who said she's looking forward to learning more about "self talk."
"I think a lot of times when I go into an exam or into a test, I have negative self-talk, like, 'I can't do this.' Like, what they touched on last night, we had a meeting with them, and they said if that self-talk is good, you're going to perform so much better," senior Alli Leonard said. "So I think I'm looking forward to learning how to do that in different ways."
The summit starts Monday, Jan. 29 at 8 p.m. at Butler's Hinkle Fieldhouse.
It is free and open to the public, but you're encouraged to register.
