INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD arrested a 22-year-old man for his alleged role in the deadly shooting of a 21-year-old woman on Indianapolis' northwest side earlier this month, the department announced July 17.
The shooting was reported around 1:45 a.m. July 9 in the 4700 block of West 56th Street, near Georgetown Road. Responding officers located a woman who had been shot. The victim was originally described by IMPD as "awake and breathing" when transported to a local hospital.
In an update later that morning, a department spokesperson said the woman was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Tyreana Lanae Terrell.
"Detectives believe that the victim had an altercation with, at least, one other person prior to the victim sustaining a gunshot wound(s)," the spokesperson said in a statement following the shooting.
In an update July 17, IMPD said detectives spoke with multiple witnesses and went through video surveillance footage to identify the alleged shooter.
On Tuesday, July 16, the 22-year-old suspect was taken into custody in the 3100 block of Thompkins Square Court, near 38th Street and North Sherman Drive, and arrested on a preliminary murder charge.
