WHITESTOWN, Ind. — A Whitestown police officer is recovering after a high-speed crash on Interstate 65 Wednesday night.
According to a release from the Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department, around 11:30 p.m. on June 5, an officer with the WMPD was slowing down to prepare to use an emergency U-turn median near the 135.5 mile marker on northbound I-65.
Police said the officer was in the side emergency lane with his lights activated when his vehicle was hit by a Honda sedan at a high rate of speed.
Both the officer and other driver from Indianapolis were transported to Methodist Hospital with "moderate injuries."
In an update Friday morning, police said the officer "is now home and believed to be recovered yet sore and will be back to work in the next couple days."
Police said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The driver of the Honda is facing a preliminary charge of operating while intoxicated with endangerment.
