Woman charged after 50+ cars spray painted in downtown Indianapolis garage

Dozens of cars were spray painted white while parked in a garage on Washington Street.

INDIANAPOLIS — Police arrested a woman who is suspected in a string of vehicle vandalization incidents in downtown Indianapolis.

On Feb. 12, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office charged 34-year-old Denise Honorio, of Indianapolis, with one count of robbery resulting in bodily injury, one count of criminal mischief (where damage is at least $50,000) and two counts of theft.

Indiana State Capitol Police was asking for help identifying someone who allegedly spray painted more than 50 vehicles in a parking garage off Washington Street on Friday, Feb. 2.

Around 4 p.m. on Feb. 7, an officer with the Indiana State Capitol Police was patrolling near the State Capitol building when he saw a woman he believed was the suspect in the vandalism case.

The officer spoke with the woman and took her into custody.

Detectives interviewed her and determined she was the same person seen in the photographs obtained from one of the cars that had been spray painted.

A short time after her arrest, police said they found someone else's driver's license in her pocket.

Detectives then reached out to the person who was on the driver's license, who told them she was the victim of a forcible robbery Feb. 2 around 4:10 p.m. while she was walking along Capital Avenue in Indianapolis.

The IU Health Police Department was already investigating the robbery incident, which detectives believe the suspect assaulted and injured the victim before stealing her purse.
