Police are investigating a deadly stabbing that happened on a MAX train Friday, March 29, 2024.

Larkin reportedly told investigators he "heard voices" that said Brady was going to kill him. He now faces a murder charge.

Court documents show Larkin has a long criminal history. He's a registered sex offender with three prior felonies in California, including rape and burglary.

Arev Miller, Brady's niece, said her family is still processing their grief.

"I've gotten some terrible calls in my lifetime, but that was by far the worst," Miller said. "I'm so angry at this man for doing this because it was so senseless. "There was nothing that ... there was nothing that Mike was doing. He was minding his business. He was listening to his earphones."

Michael Brady, who is originally from Noblesville, died after he was stabbed while on his way home on a commuter train in Portland, Oregon.

She said her uncle was kind and loving and adored his family. He was married and had a 6-year-old son.

"I don't know if it would make more sense if there was an altercation or something, or at least something that made sense, but he was just there and didn't see it coming," Miller said.

Miller said Brady played guitar, was a great role model for family members and normally called to catch up with them on his commute on that train.

"He made sure to just randomly call and make sure we're OK, and he's just a really good person, and he took care of his family," Miller said. "He worked hard, and that's what he should be remembered for because he was awesome. He was great."

Larkin is being held without bond on the current charges.

"In my opinion, there's no reason he should be out," Miller said. "If he wasn't out, this wouldn't have happened."
