2 people seriously injured in shooting at near west Indianapolis apartment complex

The shooting was reported around 11 p.m. Sunday at an apartment complex near West 16th Street and North White River Parkway Drive West.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after two people were seriously injured in a shooting on Indianapolis' near west side late Sunday.

The shooting was reported around 11 p.m. June 2 at an apartment complex in the 2100 block of Emrich Lane, near West 16th Street and North White River Parkway Drive West.

Responding officers found a man and woman who had been shot. Both were taken to local hospitals in "serious but stable" condition, IMPD Capt. Mark McCardia told 13News.

McCardia said the shooting appears to have happened inside an apartment building as a result of a "disturbance," and a person of interest was detained and is cooperating with police.

In an update early Monday, an IMPD spokesperson said "the person believed to be responsible for the shooting was identified, questioned and released pending further investigation."

McCardia also said there is no threat to the community in connection with the shooting.

Anyone with information on the incident can anonymously contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
