SPEEDWAY, Ind. — We're getting our first look at a new documentary examining the kidnapping and murders of four employees at the Burger Chef in Speedway.
There have been many theories about the grisly 1978 murders, but no arrests have been made.
"The Speedway Murders" offers a new look at the case from directors Luke Rynderman and Adam Kamien. It explores those theories formed after four workers – 20-year-old Jayne Friedt, 16-year-olds Daniel Davis and Mark Flemmonds, and 18-year-old Ruth Ellen Shelton – disappeared and were found two days later, dead in Johnson County.
In March, crews tore down the Burger Chef building on Crawfordsville Road. At the time, it wasn't clear what would happen to the property.
Most recently, the building was home to a pawn shop that closed in 2016.
13News talked with family and friends of the victims when the building came down. They said they were ready for it to be replaced with something else.
"I'm very thankful the building will be removed because I feel it has affected the entire community," said Theresa Jeffries, Shelton's sister.
"The Speedway Murders" will be available in select theaters and on Apple TV, Prime Video, and On Demand everywhere Friday, June 21.
