Tipton County fugitive back in custody after month on the run

The Tipton County Sheriff's Office has apprehended an 18-year-old fugitive who fled custody while attending a relative's funeral last month.

TIPTON COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) – The Tipton County Sheriff's Office has apprehended an 18-year-old fugitive who fled custody while attending a relative's funeral last month.

Police say Jay Dyvig was taken into custody without incident in Elwood Wednesday evening.

Authorities say Dyvig was released from the Tipton County Jail February 23 after he was granted permission to attend a family member's funeral. Dyvig did not return to the jail after the 12-hour period that he was granted. Authorities said jail staff were notified by a family member that Dyvig did not intend to return to the jail.

Dyvig was being held on charges of robbery resulting in bodily injury, criminal confinement and theft.
