'There's always going to be sunshine' | Indy neighborhood looks to recover after deadly weekend shooting

Even though it’s a dark time for their neighborhood, one woman said she still has hope.

INDIANAPOLIS — Neighbors on Schofield Avenue, near 30th Street and Keystone Avenue, were taking advantage of the sunshine and cool breeze Saturday on the near northeast side of Indianapolis — some of them unaware that their neighbor had been shot and killed earlier that same day.

"It makes me very sad, very sad. That block down there has always been quiet,” said Audra Rowan, a neighbor.

The victims’ next-door neighbors told 13News that the victim was a good person and a great neighbor, and they were shocked someone would want to hurt them.

Although Rowan wasn't close with the victim, she said it’s a loss for this tight-knit community.

“I’m sad for the family. I’m sad for the victim, the person. I hope whoever did it they get caught, or whatever but it makes me very sad,” Rowan said.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as 52-year-old Willie Lee Biles Jr.

Just a few hours after that shooting, there was another shooting on the south side of Indianapolis on Siear Drive, near South Madison Avenue and East Stop 11 Road. Police said they found a man who was shot and killed at an apartment complex around 3 a.m.

IMPD said officers detained two people believed to be involved in this shooting, but both individuals were released pending further investigation.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as 23-year-old Marcus Wayne McGlaughlin.

Even though it’s a dark time for her street, Rowan said she still has hope.

“There’s always going to be sunshine. A lot of people don’t know that but there always will be” Rowan said.
