Teenager critically injured in Lafayette stabbing; police arrest 16-year-old suspect

LAFAYETTE, Ind — Police in Lafayette are investigating after a teen was critically injured in an incident Thursday afternoon in the 300 block of North 3rd Street, near Ferry Street.

A Lafayette Police Department spokesperson said it was reported around 1:30 p.m. June 27. Officers found a 17-year-old male who had been stabbed. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition.

The spokesperson said investigators took a suspect into custody Thursday in connection with the incident. A 16-year-old boy faces preliminary charges of aggravated battery, battery with a deadly weapon and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.

Police said the two people alleged to have been involved in the incident knew each other. The spokesperson did not provide information about what preceded the stabbing.

Police said investigators are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
