SPEEDWAY, Ind. — An 18-year-old in Speedway said he was nearly shot while asleep in bed early Monday morning.
Parker said he was asleep in bed when a bullet came flying through his room around 1:15 a.m. on July 8 and got lodged in his wall, just inches above his head.
That bullet was still stuck in Parker's wall at his apartment near 21st Street and Cunningham Road Monday afternoon.
"It's scary. I mean, I never ... yeah. It's just frightening, seeing that right above my head," Parker said.
Outside the apartment, several bullet holes can be seen in the siding of the building.
Speedway police say officers on the scene found shell casings in the street and shook-up residents.
"I heard, 'Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop,' and then some sort of debris. It might have been the window shattering down here. I don't know for sure, but I didn't hear anything like cars or voices. I didn't hear anything else besides that," said Parker.
One person injured in the shooting was described by a department spokesperson as "stable" when transported to Eskenazi Hospital.
Neighbors say they believe the person in the bottom apartment was being targeted, but Parker ended up being in the line of fire.
"I had no idea for hours that a bullet had flown right above my head where I was laying down, and it was scary. Like, I saw it, and my heart dropped," Parker said.
At last check, investigators were still searching for the person or persons who shot up the apartment building. A police spokesperson said Monday morning, "there is no immediate danger to the community" in connection with the incident.
