WESTFIELD, Ind. (WTHR) - It’s not clear why three gunmen allegedly targeted a house in Westfield but it has left the neighborhood shaken.
It began with someone at the door of a home on a quiet Westfield street near Spring Mill Rd. and 169th St.
"It's very alarming," said Jesse, the victim's neighbor. “It's pretty sad that this would happen, especially in broad daylight. That's very concerning."
It happened just after 3:00 pm Monday in a two-story house on English Green St. when the victim opened the door.
"The victim was forced back into his home at gunpoint by three males," reads a Westfield police department report.
Three suspects took off in a vehicle after the robbery, but officers quickly tracked them, made a traffic stop and arrested them.
They were identified as Dominique LaWayne Dunn, 24, Jordan Dominique Bright, 26 and 23-year-old Lajon Idell Wilson, all of Indianapolis.
"Knowing they caught them quickly makes me feel better," said neighborhood resident Jen Eckert.
But as the crime lab fingerprint powder is still visible on the victim's door, some neighbors are concerned.
"Of course it scares me," said Sean, one of the victims neighbors. "Even though I have a gun at my house, my own gun, I don't think I would've been able to walk and get it by the time I opened the door and someone's pointing a gun at my face."
"I was inside so it very easily could have happened to this house too and any number of these houses as well, so that's very sad to me," Jesse said.
"You don't hear, see any activity like that around here," another neighbor told us, an otherwise safe neighborhood they said.
But there was an incident not far from the neighborhood five months ago when a man opened fire on a woman and her child in their SUV.
It happened in a botched armed robbery attempt. The mother ended up driving accidentally into a pond. No one was hurt and a suspect was caught.
Now Monday's incident has people thinking safety again.
"My 3 1/2 year-old is at the stage, I hear the doorbell I want to run to it. Now I feel like I want to break him of that," said one resident.
Police advise make sure you know who is on the other side of the door before you open it.
